Check Out Team Kererū Outstanding Assembly Practice!

This week Team Kererū had their first assembly for the year.  The learners decided on what they would like to perform and showcase for our audience.  After participating in the powhiri last week, they suggested welcoming our audience into the hall with a haka powhiri before performing one of their favourite waiata.  Click on the link below to watch is a sneak peek of their practice before Friday’s assembly.

If you were unable to make our assembly, you can view it on Glen Taylor’s Facebook page.

We would love to have our whanaū to share their thoughts on our performance.  Please leave your comments for us in the comment box below.  Perhaps you could share your favourite waita with us, and maybe we can learn it, and perform it at our next assembly.

Enjoy 🙂

Glen Taylor School Powhiri

Kia ora Whanaū.

On Thursday the 14th March Glen Taylor School had a powhiri.  First, we welcomed the Maruhiri (visitors) with a Karanga (welcome call).   The tangata whenua did a haka powhiri.  After the haka powhiri, we heard the whaikõrero.  Then we sang our school waiata.  Finally we we went back to class and had kai.

Ms Karl’s literacy group wanted to know…

  • have you been to a powhiri before?
  • How did you feel?

Some of us felt nervous and scared at first but then we felt proud and excited to have been a part of it.

Share your feelings about the powhiri in the comments below.  We look forward to reading about your experience.
